Windsurfing: Hove Wind Direction: WSW? Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Wavey Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Overcast then sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Left for Hove 12.30pm for mid-tide and hopefully some waves. So when I
arrived was disappointed to see mucho flatness and also not as windy as I
was expecting. Ummed and ahhed, thought about going to Shoreham, but then
Basher turned up and I thought sod it I'll stay here.
Correct decision! Started off on Mr Bee and Mrs 5.2, but first run out and
straight away they were getting seriously jiggy! So back in to pack up Mr
Bee before he got too frisky, and out with the Quatro and back in control.
First hour was OK, the odd wave, mostly powered up but some holes. Came to
renew my parking ticket and a quick break. Back out and woohoo sun suddenly
appeared and wind switch on! This was the best bit of the session, feet
straight into the straps and go sailing, some backside arse wiggles at the
mushy waves, and gybes a plenty. Wind kept on coming up and I was soon just
too overpowered on the 5.2 to be comfortable, so came in to change down.
Back out on the 4.5 and BOLLOX just as I went out some clouds skidded over
and the wind dropped. Underpowered and before I knew it the bastard Hove
rip had caught me and I was way down at the lawns. So very tiring
walk-of-shame back upwind, during which the sun reappeared and the wind
came back grrrrr! Tried going out again but I was way too knackered so had
to give up.
Very annoying that I missed the best bit of the day during my
walk-of-shame. But still that was my best session at Hove to date. Would
have been even better if I'd been more patient and turned up around 3pm.
Realised that make the most of Hove I really need to GET GOOD and plane out
of my inside gybes to conquer that bastard rip. Time to practise the
strap-to-strappers methinks at my next session at the Shoreham "training
pitch", before having another go at the "main arena" in Hove.
And to finish.....about half way through the session I fell off a gybe on
the inside and my left foot got nastily stuck and twisted in the front
footstrap. I thought at the time that might be painful but it seemed ok so
I carried on. No problems until I eventually collapsed on the sofa around
9pm after Asda cooking etc....and then within a few mins my foot had turned
to a red swollen lump and oh sweet mother of Jesus PAIN of an excrutiating
level I've not experienced in a very long time. Taxi to A&E, some
painkillers, and it soon died down, but still sore this morning and not
sure if I should sail today even though it's proper blowing right now and
more cross-shore than yesterday... :(
